Building Green Building With GCH

Green roofs can be used in many applications, including industrial facilities, residences, offices, and other commercial property. In Europe, they are widely used for their storm water management and energy savings potential, as well as their aesthetic benefits.
GCH can custom build soil retention barriers, planters, and roofing elements to help our business or home realize the benefits of a green roof.

The benefits of 'building green' can be realized in may ways; energy savings, tax benefits, environmental impact, and even visual improvement. Long-term economic benefits already outweigh the start-up costs. One factor reducing the cost of a green roof is that vegetation can extend the life of a roof. The less solar energy that reaches the roof substrate, the less damage from UV radiation as well as daily temperature fluctuations (which cause repeated contraction and expansion) can affect the roof.

The Environmental Protection Agency lists the following benefits for green roof building:

  • - Reduce sewage system loads by assimilating large amounts of rainwater.
  • - Absorb air pollution, collect airborne particulates, and store carbon.
  • - Protect underlying roof material by eliminating exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation and daily temperature fluctuations.
  • - Serve as living environments that provide habitats for birds and other small animals.
  • - Offer an attractive alternative to traditional roofs, addressing growing concerns about urban quality of life.
  • - Reduce noise transfer from the outdoors.
  • - Insulate a building from extreme temperatures, mainly by keeping the building interior cool in the summer.
